Trojans' golf season ends at District 11 Championship
In addition to fighting for the District 11 Class AAA championship along with Emmaus, Nazareth and Pottsville, Parkland had one individual qualify for the district individual tournament as well.
While there were high hopes for the Trojans and Nick Kshatri heading into Monday's 18-hole round at Shawnee Inn and Golf Resort, the road ended for both.
The Trojans, two weeks after coming up short to Emmaus in both the Eastern Pennsylvania Conference regular season and tournament, fell victim to the Hornets once again. Emmaus shot a 315 to win the Class AAA team championship, followed by Nazareth with a 325. The Trojans finished third with a combined round of 328.
"For Nazareth, two of their guys really played well," Parkland's Brian Cummings said. "Emmaus shot solid again. They've done that against us this entire year. They came through with some really solid rounds.
"We ended on a bit of a sour note, but overall it was a pretty successful season."
Exactly a week after shooting an 81 at the district qualifying round at Mahoning Valley Country Club (the fourth-best score in Class AAA), Kshatri shot the same score at districts. His place, however, was three strokes behind the last regional qualifier.
Leading the Trojans was Cummings with a 7-over par 79 at districts, followed by Kshatri's 81. Alec Cwienkala (84), Becca Davis (84) and Gregg Zahour (88) rounded out the Trojans' scores.
"Since I wasn't in individuals, it was more or less about the team," Cummings said. "I just wanted to play solid, and hopefully everybody else played solid. We were just looking for an even-keeled kind of day, and hopefully that would win it."
Northampton's Cartest Test won the Class AAA championship with a 1-over par 73 after defeating Freedom's Zach Juhasz in a two-hole playoff. Emmaus' Sam Fritzinger won the girls' Class AA title with a round of 75.
In Class AA, Nick Maff shot a 2-over par 74 for the boys' title, while Central Catholic's Franca Hurtado earned gold on the girls' side with a round of 84. Moravian Academy won the AA team championship.
