NASD approves three resignations
Three resignations were accepted by the Northampton Area School Board by a vote of 8-0 with one school board member absent at the Sept. 8 meeting:
· Patricia Jones, English teacher, for retirement, effective June 1, 2015, or the last teacher day of the 2014-15 school year;
· Stephanie Wuchter, custodian, for retirement, effective Jan. 8, 2015; and
· Matthew Frailey, assistant wrestling coach, effective Aug. 21.
School board members also voted 8-0 at the Sept. 8 meeting to approve:
· Professional status and tenure for Northampton Area Middle School teacher Kendell Milia, who completed three years of teaching and received six satisfactory evaluations;
· A contract between NASD and Andra Groller as the diversified occupations program supervisor for the 2014-15 school year at a stipend to not exceed $12,000 with the contract terminating June 30, 2015;
· Extracurricular staff members and stipends for the 2014-15 school year for Emily Reinsmith and Genevieve Wilde, Show Stoppers chorus co-advisors, at $424.50 each;
· The Volunteer Club to organize and meet under the direction of Christina Thrash, Rebecca Wagner and Genevieve Wilde at no expense to NASD;
· Kristen Goch, cafeteria monitor, Moore Elementary School, effective retroactive to Sept. 3 at $10.77 per hour, no benefits;
· A letter of agreement between NASD and Colonial Intermediate Unit 20 to provide remedial instruction in reading and math to nonproficient students in qualifying nonpublic schools for $21,004.70 for instruction, $212.43 for parent involvement programming and a Colonial IU-20 administrative service fee at 3 percent of the total. Nonpublic school services costs are covered through the 2014-15 Title I grant.
· A contract with St. Luke's Physician Group as NASD's provider for medical services at an annual rate of $10,000 and to provide sports physicals at a cost to the athlete of $25 per physical;
· A Northampton Area Konkrete Kids Educational Foundation $2,000 donation to NASD to purchase four document cameras for four designated school district teachers;
· Attendance of Kimberly Levin, Northampton Area High School assistant principal, at the 2014 PAESSP conference, Pittsburgh, Oct. 19-21, at approximately $963.98, included the 2014-15 board-approved curriculum budget;
· Jason Winchenbach, Allison Fiorini, Melissa Davis and Matthew Greenplate to visit Lake Placid, N.Y., along with 40 students, to ski at Whiteface Mountain, Jan. 30-Feb. 1, 2015. There will be no cost to NASD; and
· Awarding the bid for a used 2011 Crawler 60 to All Access Equipment LCC, Wilmington, Mass., for $74,230, which includes delivery, training and a one-year warranty.
