Mildred Anna Gilbert owner of former New Tripoli Print Shop dies at age 105

Mildred Anna Gilbert, 105, of New Tripoli, died Oct. 5, 2014, in the Cornerstone Living Center, Weisenberg Township.

She was predeceased by her husband Paul S. Gilbert in 1984.

Born in Mill Creek, North Whitehall Township, she was a daughter of the late Charles E. and Mary M. (Brobst) Kunkle.

She worked on the farm beginning at age 5.

She and her husband were owner-operators of the former New Tripoli Print Shop, at their home from 1935 until they retired in 1990.

When they decided to print at their New Tripoli home, she searched for an antique printing press, which has since been sold to the Lynn Heidelberg Historical Society.

The oldest member of Union Evangelical Lutheran Church, Schnecksville, she was also a founding member and past president of the Ontelaunee Lioness Club, New Tripoli. This club is believed to be the first Lioness Club in Pennsylvania in 1977.

She and her husband visited all 50 states doing work for the Lions. She wrote a book about her life up to the year 2000.

She enjoyed being with her Corgi dog, which was related to the canines owned by Great Britain's Queen Elizabeth.

Her survivors include a daughter Louise K. Kaufman of Lancaster; son Joseph K. Gilbert and his wife, Valorie, of Woodlawn, Va.; and grandchildren Beth and Paul Gilbert, Jonathan and Mark Kaufman and Katie (Kaufman) Morgan.

Her funeral service will be 1:30 p.m. Oct. 9, in Nester Funeral Home, 8405 Kings Highway, New Tripoli, with a calling hour beginning 12:30 p.m.

The Rev. David L. Hess will officiate, with interment following in the Neffs Union Cemetery, Schnecksville.
