Glasgow plays final round

At the recent District XI qualifying tournament, golfers from area schools looked to advance with the hopes of putting themselves in position to claim the championship.

Mahoning Valley Country Club hosted the AA and AAA affair last week with 22 golfers making the cut among the 3A schools. Leading the way was Trevor Buss of Nazareth who shot a 79. Pocono Mountain East's Brian Whelan came in second carding an 80, while Max Harrington (Emmaus) and Nick Kshatri (Parkland) tied for third with an 81. They're joined by 18 other golfers, along with Eric Ridley of Allentown Central Catholic who earned an exemption, to see who will be among the six golfers to advance to the regional round next Tuesday at Golden Oaks Golf Club in Ruscombmanor Township.

The cutoff was 85 for the AAA schools.

Whitehall's Patrick Glasgow finished tied for 49th, shooting a 101 to close out his senior season. He was the Zephyr's lone representative, earning a berth based on his scoring throughout the year, according to Whitehall golf coach John Conrad.

Conrad said that it was the first three holes that got Glasgow, effectively putting him out of the running for a spot in Monday's championship.

However, Conrad said that Glasgow recovered, and made some strides with his short game.

"He putted very well and he chipped very well," said Conrad.

Conrad said that once you dig a hole, the game isn't going to be very forgiving.

While he wasn't happy with the way he started, Conrad said that Glasgow was glad he finished strong, making the most of his experience at the qualifier. He said that once the senior figured out his swing, he began to string together some good holes.

The round marked the end of Glasgow's career.

Monday's D-11 AAA Championship at Shawnee Inn & Golf Resort was won by Northampton's Carter Test who outlasted Freedom's Zach Juhasz, earning the title on the second hole of sudden death. Test and Juhasz were tied at 73 after regulation.

Advancing to the regional tournament along with Test and Juhasz are Paul Fedele (Easton), Nick Atherholt (Nazareth), Max Harrington (Emmaus) and Bailey Sophy (Blue Mountain).
