Farmers market to move in 2015

The fledging North-ampton Farmers Market may be looking for a new home in 2015, following a two-year-run in the borough's uptown business district on Main Street.

The farmers market has enjoyed success, from the public and patrons, since opening last summer. However, borough plans to create a mini park at the site may factor into the market's future.

Victor Rodite, borough community planner, and borough Manager Gene Zarayko recently informed members of council action on the market should occur soon.

A new location for the farmers market in 2015 will take significant planning and communication with the farmers and other vendors.

"I recommend that you start the process ASAP," Rodite told council.

Zarayko told The Press no decision has yet been made on the future site of the farmers market or whether it will remain on Main Street, south of the Roxy Theatre, or if it will be moved to another location.

Zarayko said Canal Park may be suitable for the farmers market, but no definitive action has been taken.

"Borough council expressed interest in relocating the Northampton Farmers Market to another location." Rodite said. "You could include a discussion and decision during your October meeting."

The final day for the market's 2014 season was Oct. 7.

Also during the meeting, Rodite mentioned a Lehigh Valley radio station's on-site promotions and broadcasts have been successful.

According to Rodite, $3,600 was collected for the market's benefit, mainly from businesses, with donations ranging from $100 to $500.
