Bargaining ends

The Whitehall-Coplay Education Association and the Whitehall-Coplay School District came to terms on a tentative agreement during negotiations last week.

Joseph Krempasky, WCEA president, sent a Sept. 30 email to The Press saying, "We have a tentative agreement as of tonight. Our side has no comment at this point."

Jeffrey Sultanik, school district solicitor and official spokesperson during the contract negotiations, told The Press in an email that no further bargaining sessions are needed to finalize the contracts.

Sultanik will be working with Pennsylvania State Education Association UniServe representative Corinne Fecho to incorporate the tentative agreements into the existing contract, according to the email.

Sultanik said the negotiations took place under the guidance of state mediator Richard Stober.

"Details of the tentative agreement are not going to be released pending ratification of the collective bargaining agreements," said Sultanik, in the email.

The association will vote on the agreement Nov. 5 and the school board is scheduled to vote on the agreement Nov. 10 at its regular meeting, the email said. The board will review the details of the tentative agreement at that time.

The tentative agreement puts a close on the outstanding contract negotiations, which began in January.

The contracts expired Sept. 2 and teachers have been working under the old contract while negotiations took place.

Members of the WCEA came out in large numbers to school board meetings to make their presence known and held informational picketing during the Whitehall High School's home football games.
