LOWER MACUNGIE TOWNSHIP BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS
Lower Macungie Township commissioners announced at the Oct. 2 meeting the Weather Emergency Ordinance will be advertised and will cover all roads in the township.
This will mean there will be no parking on township roads when a weather emergency is declared.
A weather emergency includes snow, flooding and other events. The weather ordinance adds seven roads to the already existing snow emergency routes.
The township is working on methods of notification of snow emergencies including reverse 911. A brief discussion followed.
In other business, Attorney Lee Mescolotto came before the board to ask about the delay in the rezoning of land near the Spring Creek property. Mescolotto said "the township is dragging their feet."
Commissioners said they will investigate this delay. It was pointed out the rezoning has been in process for two years.
Executive Secretary for the Borough of Alburtis Sharon Trexler suggested the rezoning be delayed until the Southwestern Lehigh Comprehensive Plan is completed.
The Boy Scouts re- quested the use of the Lower Macungie Township parking lot Nov. 8 for the annual food drive. The request was granted. Last year, the Scouts collected over 3,000 cans of food.
Macungie Police Chief Edward Harry requested use of township roads during the annual Halloween parade. This was approved by the board, although approval must be secured from the state as they are state roads.
There are concerns and support expressed about the Quarry Park fields. Of concern is the cost, traffic and environmental impact such as water runoff and noise pollution.
Lower Macungie Township appointed a new auditor, Todd Bushta and Company. The company's bid was significantly lower than others.
An application has been made for the railroad crossing on the proposed extension of Sauerkraut Lane. The application must be approved by PennDOT.
The Homestead Act was discussed. For a $250,000 property, the current tax is $82.50. The new tax is $63 for a savings of $19. The ordinance is being advertised.
