Welcome to October! Can't believe it is that time of year already. Keep in mind there is no school Oct. 13 so our teachers can have a professional development day.

There is also a curriculum committee meeting 7 p.m. Oct. 13 in the administration building.

There will be a school board meeting 7:30 p.m. Oct. 15 in the administrative building.

Fire Prevention Week continues through Oct. 11. The Eastern Salisbury Fire Department will visit Harry S Truman so students can learn about fire safety. You are also encouraged to test smoke detectors at home and make sure batteries are working.

The Salisbury Key Club will participate in the Light the Night walk to benefit the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society Oct. 11. Students will be collecting donations to support this great cause. For more information, contact krossetti@stsd. org.

Salisbury Youth Assocation cheerleading will hold a designer purse bingo at Salisbury Middle School Oct. 11. There will be door prizes, refreshments and a Chinese auction. Doors open 10 a.m. with bingo starting 11 a.m. Meanwhile, SYA football will host a classic car show at SMS also 10 a.m. Oct. 11. Come out and support the teams.

Parent visits begin later this month at Salisbury Township elementary schools. You can visit your child at school at Harry S Truman and Western Salisbury 9:30 to 11:00 a.m. Oct. 21 and 1:30 to 3:00 p.m. Oct. 23. The students love to show off what they are doing for their parents. Look for more information to come home with your students.

The Franko Farm yard waste collection site will be open 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Oct. 11 and 25.
