Meet the Teacher Night at the middle school is scheduled for 6:30-8:30 p.m. tonight, Thursday, Oct. 2.

The evening will be very informative for parents who can visit the school and meet with teachers. Be sure and stop in to shop the PTSA book fair, which began Sept. 29 and runs through Oct. 3.

Schools will be closed Monday, Oct. 13, for a professional development day for teachers.

Smile, it's Steckel Elementary School picture day Friday, Oct. 3. Students were given an order form to purchase pictures. All students will be photographed, but purchasing photos is optional.

Fire Prevention Week in the elementary schools will be observed Oct. 6-10.

Many activities are planned in cooperation with the Whitehall Fire Department. A big thank you goes to the firefighters for sharing their time and knowledge with the students in the district.

The Gockley Elementary School teachers and support staff held a fundraising lunch Sept. 11, generating $165.

These funds were used to sponsor WHS 2008 alumna Alaina Snyder, daughter of district speech/language pathologist Beth Snyder, in a 5K charity event Sept. 13.

Snyder and a number of her Temple University doctor of physical therapy classmates ran in the 2014 Philadelphia Undy Run/Walk 5000.

All proceeds generated were donated to the Colon Cancer Alliance, whose effort is to promote early screenings and provide help to patients diagnosed with colorectal cancers.

Whitehall-Coplay School District invites all parents to its upcoming parent night series, which begins Oct. 8 and runs every Wednesday through Nov. 19.

Sessions take place at the high school. Topics will vary starting with "Helping Your Child Be Successful" Oct. 8 followed by "Handling Your Child's Misbehavior" Oct. 15.
