Herman R. Semmel, 90, formerly of Slatington, died Sept. 6, 2014, in Phoebe Home, Allentown.
He and his wife Jean E. (Hartline) Semmel celebrated 65 years of marriage in April.
Born Oct. 6, 1923, in Neffs, he was a son of the late Herman F.B. and Florence M. (Kichline) Semmel.
A 1941 graduate of the former Slatington High School, he was a carpenter with Simock Construction, Neffs, for numerous years until retiring.
He also served in the same capacity with several other contractors in the Lehigh Valley.
A member of St. John's Lutheran Church, Slatington, he was a life member of Citizen's Fire Co. No. 1, Slatedale, where enjoyed volunteering for numerous years at many functions.
He also enjoyed hunting for many years and farmed early in his life.
He previously was involved with the Boy Scouts and volunteered with the Slatedale Athletic Association in its concession stand.
He sincerely enjoyed and loved his family and friends.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by daughters Melissa, wife of Jeffrey Acker, of Slatington, Barbara Marsh of Boynton Beach, Fla.; son Robert and his wife, Kathy, of Virginia Beach, Va.; three grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; brother Richard D. of Slatedale.
He was predeceased by a brother, Francis P. and a sister, Eva L. Pugh.
