Girls all win two
Bethlehem Catholic, Freedom, and Liberty's girls cross country teams scored two victories apiece over Pocono Mountain East and Pocono Mountain West last week.
The Hurricanes defeated the Cardinals, 19-44, and the Panthers, 15-50.
Liberty sophomore, Raisa Kochmaruk, took first place overall with a time of 19:07. Alicia Valladares placed 7th in 21:18, Julie Vernarr came in 10th in 21:49, and Delaney Davis was 12th with a time of 22:16, all for the Hurricanes.
Davis said, "Earlier in the year, I was running 6:40s, so I've been slowing it down to 7:00, which helps in the end so I can have a kick of some kind. Today, I p.r.'d for the year. What I think helped was that it was the second consecutive week running this course. One Beca girl was pretty close to me the whole time, so it took a lot of sprint power [at the end]. I was really happy."
The Patriots defeated the Cardinals, 19-43, and the Panthers, 15-50.
Freedom senior, Shaina Palmer, placed second overall with a time of 19:19. Olivia Salerno came in 6th in 21:09, Elena Spengler was 7th in 21:10, and Bridget Tarnowski placed 11th with a time of 22:06, all for the Patriots.
The Hawks defeated the Cardinals, 19-39, and the Panthers, 15-50.
Bethlehem Catholic junior, Kassi Yocco, placed third overall with a time of 19:25.
"I tried to stay with the pack. For the first mile, I wanted to do a nice mile, and then keep the same pace in the second because I knew I would be getting tired, and then I picked it up in the third mile," said Yocco.
Rowan Pepe placed 5th in 20:08, and Lauren Bunke came in 9th with a time of 21:24, both for the Hawks.
"There was a 50 to 70 yard gap between the first group and me. I had a pretty good race. I think I got a p.r., just above 20:10," Pepe said.
