ALBURTIS BOROUGH COUNCIL
Mayor Kathleen Palmer spoke about House Bill No. 2011 which was introduced in the state legislature at the Sept. 24 Alburtis Borough meeting. It is a bill about limiting firearms and ammunition. She also spoke about pension reform but it was agreed with Solicitor David Knerr teachers' issues should be settled first.
Alburtis is requesting a multimodal transportation fund grant in the amount of $41,500 from the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation. The grant is to be used for curbs and sidewalks on the north side of Third Street in the borough.
The borough dump truck is old and in need of several repairs such as an overhaul of the transmission and an oil leak in the turbo unit. Rehabbing the transmission will cost $4,200.
Borough Council discussed three options. One would be to complete these repairs. Another option is to run it into the ground and the third option is to buy a new truck. A discussion arose over how to pay for the truck.
A loan can be obtained from the bank or Alburtis can borrow from itself. There are several healthy fund balances which could be used for the purchase.
The concern for this option is to make sure the repayment is completed. Council decided to buy a new truck with funds to be borrowed from another fund.
All were in favor except for Councilman John Aleszczyk. The purchase is contingent upon the approval of Donnie Derr, maintenance supervisor.
In other meeting news, the Lockridge Historical Church is available for usage for lectures, weddings and other events. There are limitations, however, due to no restrooms and no ADA capabilities. There will be a list of rules to be followed for the return of the security deposit, such as no open flames and no confetti.
The committee involved with the church, an advisory group, is looking for more help with the facility. Electrical work is needed at the church including an electrical box. Three bids were received and Haines was awarded the contract.
