Bernadine "Bernie" A. Gerhard, 83, of Whitehall, died Sept. 21, 2014, at home. She was the wife of the late Frank "Jim" C. Gerhard for 39 years.

Born in Allentown, she was a daughter of the late Cyril J. and Anna A. (Krisch) Surovy.

She was a table worker for the former Bru-Mar Manufacturing, Allentown, for more than 20 years until she retired in 1987.

She was a member of St. John the Baptist Slovak Catholic Church, Allentown.

She was a past president of the First Catholic Slovak Union Jednota Branch 567 KJ, the Rev. Stephen Furdek district; and chairperson of auditors in eastern Pennsylvania, Maryland and Washington, D.C. She was a member of the Greater Lehigh Valley Slovak Association and the former Whitehall Senior Citizens.

She is survived by a daughters, Margaret "Peggy" P. and her husband Jerome Gillespie of North Catasauqua; a granddaughter, Tina and her husband Zachary Keenan of Northampton; two great-grandchildren, Ava and Owen; and a niece and nephews and their families.

She was predeceased by a brother, Joseph J. and his wife Lois Surovy.

There will be a viewing from 9:30 -10:30 a.m. Sept. 25 in the funeral home, 444 Pershing Blvd., Whitehall. There will be a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. Sept. 25 in the church, 924 N. Front St., Allentown.
