Kaitlin Swint, Freedom High School's number three singles player, took third place in the East Penn Conference Girls Tennis Tournament on Saturday at Parkland High School.
Swint defeated East Stroudsburg South, 10-4, in the consolation match for the bronze medal.
"I felt relieved. I was tired. My coach [Mark Sigmon] gave me good advice. He told me to keep the ball in play and keep playing aggressively. Yes, it worked up at the net most of the time. That's how I dominated the game," Swint said.
Swint came into the consolation match after losing to Liberty High School's Emily Moss, 5-10.
"When I played her, I wasn't expecting that score. She was great, consistent at hitting the ball. She was really nice, one of the nicest players. Being our rival school, I was trying my best," said Swint.
Swint won in a tiebreaker (score unavailable) against Nazareth in the quarterfinal.
"I was down 3-7 and got back into it. I played deep to the backhand like my coach said," Swint said.
Last year, Swint won third place at three doubles in the Lehigh Valley Conference Tennis Championships.
"Singles is really different. It's more individual. I like singles better than doubles," she said. "My strokes were really good today. The day was very challenging."
