The Lower Macungie Township Historical Society is marking its 25th anniversary this year with a special event Oct. 12 for all township residents, young, old, newcomers and longtime residents.
The Lower Macungie community center will be filled with exhibits, activities for children and an antiques appraisal event 1 to 3 p.m. with specialists from Tom Hall Auctions.
A recently completed video production about the township's history during the 18th and 19th centuries will be introduced to the public and will be for sale. Also for sale will be "Save the Barns" T-shirts and a ghost book filled with stories of local hauntings.
Activities for children will include old-fashioned games such as skittles, "drop the coin," Jacob's ladders and various others. All children will receive a coloring book.
For adults, there will be displays of historical society activities and projects and historic photos to peruse. An expert on local history and a genealogist will answer questions people may have about local history in general or their family in particular.
Adults will receive a 48-page book of local history, compiled for the occasion.
Other attractions include a special appearance by Mark Twain, demonstrations and light refreshments.
The event is free and runs 1 to 4 p.m. Tickets for appraisals should be bought in advance. Details are on www.lmthistory. org.
