Volleyball wins battle of state's top-ranked teams
Revenge always feels good, but it feels even better when it is against your rival in their home gym in front of their crowd.
A year ago, Emmaus upset Parkland in the district semifinal to deny the Trojans of another district championship. It was a hard pill to swallow.
But in an early-season matchup just about a year later, both teams were coming in with a lot of momentum and were looking to beat each other.
The Green Hornets (13-1, 5-1) were undefeated and hadn't lost more than one game in a match yet this season, but Parkland (13-0, 6-0) came out strong and took three straight games Monday night, 25-17, 25-18, and 25-21, in a match featuring the top two teams in the state according to Max Prep.
The Trojans sent a message, but also amassed some revenge after being ousted from the district tournament a year ago in the semifinals to Emmaus.
"I think we wanted this one a lot because we lost to them last year," said Parkland's Brooke Robertson. "We knew half the team over there so it was really fun to play against them. The win feels good now, but we want to be able to do this again later."
It was a rowdy atmosphere, which was expected with two undefeated and top teams in the state meeting, but Parkland came out and dominated play.
Parkland came out and took it to Emmaus in game one, but the Green Hornets fired back and led for consecutive points in games two and three, but weren't able to feed off the energy of from the crowd, and Parkland used its size up front to dominate the net.
"We can always count on each other to make a block or get a kill when we need it," said Robertson.
"Everyone is reliable up front, and consistent. They're just in the right place when they have to be."
Robertson (10 kills) and Sienna Salvaggio (8 kills) were forces up front, and Avery Perosa came up with 8 digs. Kristin Krause tallied 27 assists.
