School board hires assistant principal
The Whitehall-Coplay School Board Sept. 8 announced the appointments of Gabriel Dillard as high school assistant principal and Blakely Mayrosh as high school librarian.
Superintendent John Corby said Dillard's salary will be $82,000 and Maryrosh will earn $48,193.
Corby also spoke about the first day of school, Sept. 3.
Corby said 4,301 students were welcomed back and that he visited all the buildings on campus.
"I want to thank everyone, students and staff, for a wonderful job and a great first day," he said.
He also noted the relationship the district has with the Whitehall Township Police Department, saying the help the police provide in keeping the campus safe is invaluable.
The board also made nominations for people to serve on the Pennsylvania School Board Association.
Board member Arthur Taschler Jr. made a motion to nominate Charles H. Ballard, of East Penn School District, for PSBA president-elect and board member Joyce Wheeler seconded the nomination.
Board member Wayne Grim made a motion to nominate Mark. B. Miller, of Centennial School District, for PSBA vice president and school board vice president Robert Kolb seconded the nomination.
In a motion made by Taschler, the board nominated Otto W. Voit III, of Muhlenberg School District, for PSBA treasurer and Wheeler seconded the nomination.
Wheeler made a motion to nominate Michael Faccinetto, of Bethlehem Area School District, for PSBA representative-at-large and Grim seconded the nomination.
In other business, the board approved the new contract with Waste Management for the removal of waste and recyclables at a cost of $3,650 for the months of September through June and $2,329.30 for the months of July and August. The cost represents a reduction of $7,907 from the previous contract.
