It's time to register for parade

When it's September in North Catasauqua, it's not too early to begin planning for the Catasauqua-North Catasauqua Halloween Parade. This year, it will be held 7 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 15, with a rain date of Oct. 22.

Parade entry forms are available at North Catasauqua Borough Hall. Enter as a family, a group, an individual, a neighborhood or a business. Registration deadline is Sept. 30. Groups or individuals entering after the deadline will be placed in the last division.

Trick-or-Treat Night in North Catasauqua will be 6-8 p.m. Friday, Oct. 31, with a rain date of Saturday, Nov. 1. Remember to turn on your porch light to welcome area children to your doorstep for treats.

This year's Best of North Catasauqua Autumnfest Oct. 12 will feature a halupki-eating contest. The winner will receive $100. Enter the contest by completing an entry form, available by emailing NCataCentennial@aol. com. Only 10 spots are available, so enter today.

The eighth annual Best of North Catasauqua Autumnfest & Car Show will take place at the borough park, 701 Grove St., 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 12. Crafters, flea market sales and business vendors are wanted.

Contact the North Catasauqua Betterment Committee for information or for vendor market entry forms, or pick one up at North Catasauqua Borough Hall, 1066 Fourth St. The betterment committee may be reached at NCataCentennial@aol. com or by calling 610-264-1504. Car show entry forms are also available at borough hall.

The betterment committee is also seeking volunteers to assist at Autumnfest.

The opportunity is open to anyone looking to get out of the house for a while or someone seeking to get involved in the community or high school students fulfilling volunteer requirements for graduation.

Volunteer positions include wearing a Crayola Crayon mascot costume, inflating and distributing balloons, face painters, craft tent monitors, pumpkin decorating volunteers and bounce house volunteers. Shifts of from one to three hours are available.

No experience necessary and, as always, volunteering is a fun and enriching experience. Why not get your whole family involved?

The Catasauqua Public Library has a new service for its members. It is offering downloads of ebooks from the library website. Members may choose from a selection of ebooks online.

Access the website at www.catasauquapl.org. Readers will need a valid Catasauqua Library card and a device to download the ebook to (i.e. Kindle, Nook, smartphone or computer).

To see what is available in the ebook format, go to the website and click on the button which says "Enjoy Books" and follow the instructions.

The Catasauqua Thrift Shop, 113 Bridge St., reopened after a week of housecleaning and changing over to fall and winter fashions. Stop in and see the new selections.

Proceeds from the shop are returned to the Catasauqua and North Catasauqua communities through contributions to youth and adult programs and services.
