A park for Fox Hollow Saylor Park community families in North Coplay has hit a snag.
Whitehall Township Commissioner Gerard Palagonia said at the September commissioners meeting he is concerned plans for the park are not moving forward.
According to Palagonia, several months ago he was approached by residents at Fox Hollow who indicated they were interested in a park.
Funding was available previously for recreation in Cementon, he said.
Children at Fox Hollow go to Coplay and use the parkway, playground and swimming pool. It is the closest recreation site for Fox Hollow residents. There is also Riverwalk Park in Lower Cementon to the north, but it's much farther than the site in Coplay.
Palagonia said he was unsuccessful asking Mike Hobel to sell or donate land for the pocket park. Hobel is the developer of a mobile home park in North Coplay.
"I spoke to Lafarge," Palagonia added.
He said he is in talks with an executive at the Whitehall cement plant. Lafarge has acres of open space in the area of Fox Hollow and Cementon.
However. Palagionia said he was informed Lafarge is currently considering a merger with another cement company.
"Nothing can be done. I thought it was a good idea. For now it's at a standstill," he said.
No other commissioners or Mayor Edward D. Hozza Jr. commented on the matter.
