Bath Borough Council has been thinking about snow in September – or at least how to clean it up when winter hits.
The council meeting Sept. 2 included a snow removal strategy discussion for the 2014-15 winter season.
The 2013-14 winter season dumped about 12 snow emergencies onto the area, said borough Manager Tom Petrucci.
"The concern in Old Forge is really a public safety issue," he said. "There were times during last year when fire trucks couldn't get down there."
"Last year, the chief, the mayor and town got together and recommended what streets should be snow emergency," council President Robert Fields said.
One of the suggestions was for cars to park on one side of the street on even days and to park on the other side of the street on odd days.
"But I think that would be a problem because if you look at Penn Street and Washington Street, both sides are filled all the time, so if you want to move them all to one side, where are they going to go?" Fields asked.
"And some streets only have parking on one side," Councilman Michael Reph added.
Councilwoman Carol Bear-Heckman suggested trying the new strategy for one year to see if it works. Many houses have additional parking on the back streets and alleys.
Councilwoman Kathryn Roberts said she believes that if residents are given an opportunity to have their street plowed, they would take the time to move their vehicles.
Petrucci said he will "make a report of recommended routes where this would make sense."
Members of the council will continue to look over the informational material and review more suggestions at next month's meeting.
