WESTERN SALISBURY COLUMN K-9 trials held at SHS Sept. 28
The 2014 Lehigh Valley K-9 trials will be held 9 a.m. Sept. 28 in the Salisbury High School stadium. Sponsored by the Salisbury Township Police Officers Association, the trials were originally held in honor of fallen K-9 officer Kyle Pagerly who was killed in the line of duty in 2011. This will be the fourth annual event, will include 20 to 30 K-9s and proceeds will be donated to Our Fallen Brothers & Canine Partners. It is a good time for participants and spectators alike.
Sept. 19 is an early dismissal day for Salisbury Township schools. The high school and middle school will dismiss 12:15 p.m. Elementary schools will dismiss 1 p.m.
Portrait day for Salisbury High School will be Sept. 23. Student pictures will be taken at Western Salisbury Elementary Sept. 30.
Believe it or not, mid-marking for SHS and Salisbury Middle School is set for Sept. 26.
There is a school board meeting 7 p.m. Sept. 17 in the administration building.
The Salisbury Youth Association will hold a car wash and bake sale 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sept. 20 at Big Woody's in Allentown. It was originally scheduled for Sept. 13, but was postponed due to rain.
Western Salisbury Volunteer Fire Company is inviting everyone out to its sixth annual community day. The festivities run 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sept. 20 at Green Acres Park. There will be fire truck displays, a bounce house, free refreshments and a show by Balloons the Clown. They will be collecting canned food for a local food bank and collecting donations of blood with the Miller Keystone Bloodmobile onsite.
If you will be buying any flowers at Dan Schantz Greenhouse this fall, you can support the music program at Salisbury schools at the same time. What you need to do is visit the district website at www.stsd.org and print out a page of benefit tickets. A donation is given to the music program with a minimum purchase.
Our friendly, neighborhood Bon-Ton in the South Mall is holding their semi-annual Goodwill Sale Sept. 17 through Oct. 14. All you have to do is take gently used clothes you want to donate to the store. Take the clothing to a register and you will receive a coupon for every item you donate. It is never too early to start Christmas shopping and donate to a worthy cause at the same time.
The Devonshire yard waste drop off will be open 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sept. 20 and 30.
