LHS beat Allen

Mike Mittl's penalty kick late in the second period assured the Hurricanes of a win over Allen Monday at Liberty.

Mittl, who scored the third and final goal in Liberty's 3-0 victory said, "There was a little bit of pressure on me. I knew I could place it on either side of the net. I kicked it, and it went in."

The goal was Mittl's first career varsity goal.

"I was proud of myself. I felt a lot of excitement, and I was relieved," the senior defender said.

Midfielder, Colin Muller, scored the first goal for the Hurricanes on a header.

"Mike Visperas played a great ball in, and I was lucky enough to be on the end of it," Muller said.

Muller, a captain, is seeing progress for the Hurricanes despite a record of 3-4.

"Our record doesn't show who we are. We're a much better team, and we're starting to come together. We want to keep this kind of form the way we played today, moving the ball," said Muller.

Hurricane forward, Michael Silva, scored his first varsity goal, the team's second.

"I took a touch with my chest and shot it. It hit off the crossbar and came back, and I kicked it in," Silva said. "It felt great. There was so much pressure [from Allen's defense]," Silva said.

Liberty's next match is Thursday vs. Dieruff.

Coach Jason Horvath said, "We've had some issues with some big, strong teams. Today was only our second home game, and we've had some key injuries. We're still tweaking it a little with guys in the midfield and up top. There has to be an attitude adjustment. It doesn't matter how big the guy is, they can't be intimidated."
