Freedom and Liberty's boys cross country teams defeated Northampton and Nazareth last week at Bicentennial Park.

Freedom's Dan Quigley, Liberty's Alex Fitch, and Freedom's Ben Ziegler tied for first place with a time of 16:57. Jason Lopez was fourth with a time of 17:06, and Will Alpaugh was fifth with a time of 17:18, both for the Patriots.

Liberty senior, Will Masemore, placed sixth in 17:23.

"I felt pretty good. For the first mile, I knew I wouldn't go out as fast. I was at 5:30, and I felt if I could keep that pace, I would be pretty successful," Masemore said.

Masemore and Hurricane teammates, Fitch and Jonah George, ran together at first, working to gain an advantage and get as far in front of Nazareth and Northampton as possible.

"Even if we slowed down, we would have enough of a lead," said Masemore.

Liberty's Jonah George placed eighth in 17:38, and Freedom's Tom Salerno finished in ninth place in 17:45.

Finishing first for Bethlehem Catholic was sophomore, John Zemanek, who placed 42nd in 19:55.

"I started to pass [teammate Austin Tucker] at the two mile mark. Then, I ran with one guy from Nazareth," Zemanek said.

Zemanek improved his time from last week by almost two minutes.

"It was really hot [last week], and I usually do bad running at Lehigh Parkway," he said. "Today was a pretty good day. I think I did really good."

Team scores were Freedom 16-Nazareth 47, Liberty 18-Nazareth 43, Freedom 15-Northampton 47, and Liberty 18-Northampton 43. Becahi lost to Nazareth 15-50 and Northampton 15-46.
