Ronald J. Schmidt Jr., 73, of Bethlehem, died Sept. 4, 2014, at Lehigh Valley Hospital-Muhlenberg Campus, Bethlehem.
Bornin Monongahela, he was a son of the late Jacob Charles and Vera Lillian (Hoffman) Schmidt. He was the husband of the late Carol D. (Sheats) Schmidt.
He was a graduate of Belmar High School, Belle Vernon, where he was inducted into the district's sports football hall of fame. He was a graduate of Bethany College, W.V., with a bachelor's teaching degree in PE.
He worked for the Occidental Chemical Corporation, Jersey City, N.J., for many years until he retired.
He was a Presbyterian.
He was a member of the Jaycees in Perry, Ohio, and a member and past president of the Lions Club in New Fane, N.Y. He was a member of the Bunker Hill Beagle Club, Lehigh Township; Isaak Walton Rod and Gun Club, Allentown; and the Honorary First Defenders, Bethlehem Chapter.
He is survived by three daughters, Sharon E. and her husband William Richardson of Lockport, N.Y., Gayle D. and her husband Vincent Frassenei of Audobon, and Stephanie L. and her husband Miles Hottenstein of Bethlehem; a son, Ronald J. Jr. and his wife Laura of Charlotte, N.C; four grandchildren, Nicholas, Miles, Karlyn and Jacob; a sister, Sharlene and her husband Leland Haney of Independence, Mo.; a niece; and two nephews.
He was predeceased by a daughter, Rhonda K. Schmidt; and a grandson, Joshua Frassenei.
