A cooler than usual summer has resulted in the Northampton Borough Municipal Pool loosing revenue.
"It was a rather poor year revenue wise," borough Manager Gene Zarayko said at last week's council meeting. "It should be noted that we were open one less week this year."
Revenue for 2014 was $46,341, a decrease of $3,028 from 2013.
The pool closed Aug. 16 because many lifeguards returned to college.
"However, it was a safe year with no major injuries," Zarayko added.
There were two Dip-N-Dance parties that were well attended.
Unlike in past years, no leaks were reported at the pool, which helped with attendance.
The pool first opened in the 1950s and has remained opened and in operation since.
In another matter, council indicated the youth dances at the recreation center on Lerchenmiller Drive resume this month.
Recreation Center Director Jason Kremus reported there will be two Saturday evening dances with a deejay in September for fourth- through sixth-grade children. The first dance is scheduled for Saturday, then another dance will be held Sept. 27. The dances are from 6:30 to 9 p.m.
"As in the past, he [Kremus] could use some volunteers to chaperone and/or work the snack bar," Councilman Anthony Lopsonzski Jr. said.
The borough also held a retirement party for outgoing Public Works Director Steve Gerny.
"Steve has been a tremendous asset to the borough and will be greatly missed. Forty-four years of service in this day and age is almost unheard of," Zarayko said.
