Kholi is key to Vikes'
Nobody thought that Central Catholic had a chance to beat Whitehall. But last Friday night, the Vikings went into the locker room at halftime ahead 28-0, until the Zephyrs found an answer and stormed back to take a close 42-41 overtime victory.
Parkland head coach Jim Morgans knows Central all too well. Being an alum and an former head coach of the Vikings, he knows what they bring. Central head coach John Copples played under Morgans and the respect is mutual.
"It's always a big deal playing Central Catholic and playing at J. Birney Crum Stadium," said Morgans. "There's some mixed emotions every time we play them. But I'm here to win games, and they're a good team and I know John wants to win this one just as bad as I do."
What helps Morgans is the type of team he has at his disposal. The Trojans have won their last two games by a combined score of 98-7, led by an explosive offense, and a stingy defense that does not give up a lot of yardage.
"Everybody has been playing together and that's what makes us so strong," said senior Omar Haddad. "I think we gelled together during double (sessions in preseason), and have just kept it up."
Viking quarterback Mason Kholi had a big game against Whitehall, and the dual-threat quarterback accounted for the majority of the Vikings offense. It is something that the defense is stressing on leading up to the game.
"He's a threat to do it with his arms and his legs," said Haddad. "We have to be ready for whatever he does. We need to stick to working hard and outwork everybody."
Devante Cross has been on his game, along with tailback Unique Divine, who each scored multiple touchdowns in the game against Northampton last weekend. They will look to keep this offense rolling and allow the defense some room to breathe.
