LOWER MACUNGIE TOWNSHIP BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS

Ordinances involving the Spring Creek Property development were approved regarding vacating a portion of Ruth Road, Ruth Lane and Smith Lane at the Sept. 4 meeting.

A resident in this area expressed concern for flooding of his property as well as plowing of snow. When there is heavy rain, he has a problem with flooding. For plowing of snow, the plows must plow uphill. The resident also expressed concern for garbage and recycling and emergency vehicles.

David Jaindl said there will be a gated and locked emergency access through the property. Keys will be provided to pertinent personnel.

Linda Lehman from Smith Lane requested a "sunset clause" to keep the new cul-de-sac closed, with no further development in the area. The commissioners said there would be no development and the cul-de-sac would remain closed.

Also approved was the execution of two deeds for Spring Creek Road right-of-way from Lower Macungie Township to PennDOT. Further details regarding these proceedings can be found on the Lower Macungie website.

Lower Macungie Library Vice President Jerel Gade, provided an update of activities of the library. Gade said the summer reading program was a great success. An adult program will begin this month for learning Pennsylvania Dutch.

Commissioner Ron Beitler complimented library personnel for a reading program involving the characters from "Frozen." The program expected about 25 to 30 children to attend but over 300 attended. Corporate fundraising at the library has begun. Monetary gifts as well as other gifts are accepted. Contact the library for further information.

The library has a reader's advisory program; by providing certain information, a list of suggested books for reading is provided.

Correspondence was received about the traffic in the Spring Creek development and other areas. Concerns were expressed over the land needed to expand Spring Creek Road. Residents have been asked to sell portions of their property for this project. Truck traffic was also mentioned causing rural road damage and traffic congestion.

It was suggested there be a better method of disposing of batteries and fluorescent bulbs; this will be reviewed.

A resident recommended a nature trail be created along Crick Road in the Millbrook Farms subdivision. This would not just be a nature trail but an added access to shopping areas. This will be reviewed.

PennDOT responded to Lower Macungie Township's request for brake retarder prohibition on Brookside Road. They have denied the request.

The use of the iPads for the meetings saved the township the use of 1,110 pages of paper for the Sept. 4 meeting .

Township workers were complimented on the job done on Mill Creek Road by Walgreen's. This project was coordinated with Upper Macungie Township.

There is the possibility of renting out a portion of the Township building to State Rep. Ryan MacKenzie, R-134th.
