'Shrek' to be 2015 Catasauqua Area Showcase Theater show
After several years of applying for the rights, the Catasauqua Area Showcase Theatre Company is excited to announce it will be performing the musical "Shrek" in April and May of 2015 at Catasauqua High School.
The musical is based on the popular 2001 animated feature of the same name.
A large cast of wonderful characters provides opportunity for many performers of all ages and ability.
Familiar fairytale characters interact with main characters Shrek, Donkey, Princess Fiona and Lord Farquaad.
Because of the large cast requirement, CAST is looking to increase its membership.
Interested individuals are asked to attend a membership meeting on Monday Sept. 8, at 7 p.m. in the Sheckler Elementary School cafeteria in Catasauqua.
Membership is not limited to Catasauqua residents.
CAST is a family-based theatrical organization which has been performing for 22 years.
Its members create first-rate costumes, sets, backdrops and props.
Family members perform together or work behind the scenes to bring the production to life.
As an organization, the members have established a Families Helping Families Program where financial support is given to families in need.
CAST also provides help and financial support for the arts in the Catasauqua Area School District.
Director Bill Nothstein is confident everyone will find involvement in this production to be a positive experience.
"Regardless of if you plan to join the organization or attend our performances, you will not be disappointed in your family's experience," he said.
Due to this large scale production, CAST is also looking for individuals to help create the numerous costumes and extensive set designs needed for the show.
Individuals interested in helping should contact Nothstein at nothsteinw@hotmail.com or 610-266-9512 and attend the Sept. 8 meeting if possible.
The organization is also in need of an individual who has both a musical background and computer skills to work with the musical team to provide the extensive music and sound background for the show.
CAST will be holding an annual homemade pierogie sale in October and their apple dumpling sale in November. Check the website at cattytheatre.org for further details.
