Right to know requests keep twp. busy

Whitehall Township personnel remain busy collecting information governed by Pennsylvania's Right to Know Law.

The requests are mainly from developers, attorneys and contractors relating to properties. Few requests revolve around the government.

"We average eight to 10 requests monthly for information under the Right to Know Law," Deputy Mayor Jack Meyers said.

The information requests range from permit requests to properties sold and real estate records the township has on file.

Meyers said someone has been inquiring on possible oil tanks underneath the basement. It's likely the files are with the fire chief, he said,

He said the township development office personnel often have to research records dating back a number of years.

"It takes a lot of time," Meyers said of the requests.

There is no fee for information researched and provided the individual or company.

Meyers noted there is a fee charged for making copies of the documents requested.
