Freedom High School graduate, Kevin McPeek, will continue his volleyball career at Wentworth Institute of Technology in Boston, Mass. this fall.
Coach Evin Giglio saw McPeek in a volleyball tournament in Rochester, NY, and liked what he saw.
"He wanted me for the team. It felt pretty good," McPeek said.
McPeek's official visit included sitting in on three classes, visiting off-campus hangouts, and spending the evening with the team. The following day, McPeek attended the Leopards' doubleheader against Emerson.
"Looking toward the future [Coach Giglio] said our biggest struggle was defense, and he sees me contributing to the team to get them where they need to be," said McPeek.
This past season, the Leopards were 27-8 overall and 14-2 in the Eastern College Athletic Conference.
"The coach is very down-to-earth. There are no ridiculously early practices, and he's very close with the team. They all get along, and there are no issues with anybody," McPeek said. "Going into it, I had a drill sergeant type image of college [volleyball], but it was really low key, and the coaches play with the players."
McPeek's move-in day is Sept. 3, and open gym will begin two weeks later.
"I'm looking forward to branching out and being able to do my own thing at times, exploring Boston, and having the freedom to experience new things," he said.
McPeek is planning to major in biomedical engineering.
