Betty C. (Wilt) Seibert
Betty Catherine (Wilt) Seibert, 86, of Macungie (Upper Milford Township), died unexpectedly Aug. 28, 2014, surrounded by her immediate family. She was the wife of the late Warren P. Seibert. They celebrated 42 years of marriage. Born in Cetronia, she was a daughter of the late John A. Wilt and Elizabeth V. (Kline) Wilt of Macungie.
She attended Koch's School, a one-room schoolhouse on Saint Peter's Road and graduated from Emmaus High School in 1945.
She worked as a seamstress for Phoenix Mfg. Co. (Adelaide Silk Mill) in Allentown and then became a homemaker. In 1971 she returned to work, employed as a cook at Shoemaker Elementary School cafeteria. In 1973, she transferred to the district's maintenance department where she worked until 1997. She was proud of becoming the first female "night foreman," overseeing the maintenance staff at Eyer Middle School. After more than 26 years with the East Penn School District, she retired.
She retired to her Macungie Mountain "Gardener's Paradise," also fondly referred to as "Betty's Work Farm" by family members and those who knew her. She enjoyed telling stories of the old days and her work at the school, and freely shared her views on politics, life and women's rights. With family roots in Cetronia and Fredericksville, she was very proud of her Pennsylvania German heritage and was able to speak the dialect fluently.
She enjoyed traveling and visited Alaska, Hawaii, Austria and Germany. She loved music and provided excellent care for her multiple pets.
She is survived by daughters, Deborah and her husband Dr. John Schevets, of Zionsville, Dr. Natalie Mayer and her husband, Dr. John Mayer, of Fairbanks, Ala.; four grandchildren, Jennifer MacDonald, of Zionsville, Jacquelyn MacDonald, of Los Gatos, Calif., and Julia Mayer and Christopher Mayer, both of Fairbanks; brothers, John Wilt, of Santa Rosa, Calif. and Donald Wilt, of Macungie; sister, Patricia Lichtenwalner of Twin Mountain, N.H.; 10 nieces and 10 nephews. She was predeceased by sisters, Jean Wilt and Irene Glase.
