Broughal MS and Hanover ES were among four state schools honored with the second annual "Moving to the Head of the Class: Energy Efficiency Schools Award," from the KEEA Energy Efficiency Fund.
Bethlehem's elementary and middle school students have spearheaded a variety of energy-efficiency initiatives this past year, including student-led energy patrols and showcasing LEED-conservation principles through a community gingerbread house competition.
In addition to the public recognition, Broughal MS was awarded services from EMC Development Company Inc. to qualify recent energy efficiency projects as a capacity resource in the PJM capacity market – valued at several thousand dollars. Given Hanover's need for power management, the school was awarded a PC and Printer Energy Assessment from Encentiv Energy.
The statewide award, sponsored by the Keystone Energy Efficiency Foundation and the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, recognizes schools which have made a significant improvement in their energy efficiency in 2013.
