Northampton Area Public Library Column
Editor's note: This is the first of what will be a regular column about events and information pertaining to the Northampton Area Public Library.
Many changes are happening at your library. We've remodeled the interior and refurbished the library's landscape.
What's next? We are redesigning our website! We're making it easier to use and adding more content. We are looking for a web designer. If you or someone you know is interested in submitting a proposal for this project, email mhawk@northamptonapl.org and we will send you the RFP.
We have wrapped up our summer programs for children, tweens and teens. It was a great success with more than 9,000 books read by 357 kids. Thank you to our Friends group, PPL Corporation, Dollar General Literacy Foundation and Panther Creek Energy for funding the programs, speakers and prizes this summer.
Also, thank you to the kids, family members and friends that participated. We are already planning next summer's programs as well as this fall's events.
Students in seventh through 12th grade are invited to join our Teen Advisory Board. You'll help decide what teen books the library buys, help plan and prepare for activities and programs, and have some snacks.
We will be decorating a float for the Jack Frost Parade and deciding on this year's programs. Ideas for events include a murder mystery dinner and a Mockingjay movie release party. Email mhawk@northamptonapl.org for more information.
Do you need computer help? Volunteer Marty Ford is now available for one-on-one instruction Saturday mornings from 9 a.m. to noon. He can assist with both PCs and Apple computers.
You can sign up for an hour at a time and come for as many weeks as you'd like, all sessions are free.
Also, Wednesdays at 6 p.m., volunteer Bill Richardson teaches a computer class for ages 16 to adult. He tailors each session to students' needs and covers many aspects of basic computer use, common word processing and related topics.
The classes are free, and students may attend as many times as they wish. If these times don't fit your schedule, call us and we will arrange a session with a staff member for you.
