Margaret Simon
Margaret "Peg" Simon died on Aug. 20, 2104.
She was sitting in a comfortable chair with her dog on her lap talking with her sister on the phone when she experienced cardiac arrest.
Born May 9, 1932, in Catasauqua, she was a daughter of the late Joseph and Mary Hudy.
She had two sisters, Elaine Campbell and Marianne Lange.
From childhood, she took voice lessons and was a soloist with many local bands. She continued to sing until the time of her death.
She used her talent to be crowned Miss Lehigh Valley and finalist to Miss Pennsylvania.
She and her late husband Curtis Zimmerman had two children, Judith Zimmerman and Gayle Goepfert.
They had many wonderful loving years together.
After his death, she married the late John Simon and was mother to his children, John David Simon and Melissa Schroeder.
She and her second husband traveled the world.
Later in life, she had a special friendship with Bert Winzer and they enjoyed each other's company.
Prior to retirement, she worked for the Carbon Lehigh Intermediate Unit.
She attended First Presbyterian Church, Allentown, and was a soloist with the Chancel Choir.
She volunteered at Catasauqua Thrift Shop and sometimes purchased as many treasures as she had donated.
A breast cancer survivor, she volunteered for Reach for Recovery.
Known for her unconditional loving spirit, generosity, kindness and eagerness to mentor and support others, she often remarked on feeling very blessed.
All who knew her benefited from her joyous and full embrace of life. Her loving light is sorely missed.
Her survivors include children, stepchildren, sisters, grandchildren, nieces, nephews, great-grandchildren, and her dog Amos.
