LVC honors final scholar-athlete class

The Lehigh Valley Conference announced is final scholar-athlete class at Moravian College back in spring. And, the list proved to be as impressive as it is every year.

With 23 different sports representing the conference, the two awards that made the most impact were the Character and Sportsmanship awards given to Whitehall's Ryan Bonshak and Liberty's Emily Cecchini.

The duo came away with a healthy slate of hardware during the ceremony, as Bonshak took home honors in football, while Cecchini won in softball and girls' swimming.

But their sportsmanship awards showed their true character as individuals, which was highlighted through the list of traits that both encompass in regards to being ultimate team players and role models.

"Over the past four years, I've worked very hard and this award shows how much I've put into everything," said the Lehigh-bound Bonshak, who will play baseball in college. "This is all apart of being an athlete and respecting the game and the people around you. For that to be noticed is very impressive and adds to my happiness about getting this award."

Cecchini stole the show by winning three awards, as the future Naval officer was honored to be the recipient of multiple trophies.

"Just to be noticed for the time you put in is such an honor," she said. "The character award means the most to me, because it feels good to be looked at as a leader and I want to take that wherever I end up in life."

Emmaus' Hanna Brosky won two awards as well, grabbing honors in girls' cross country and track and field.

"Over the years, it's definitely been a lot of work between sports and school, so it's nice to be honored," said Brosky, who plans to continue running at Lehigh next fall. "You know track has probably 180 other candidates that could have won this award, so I'm proud to be able to share this with my family."

Other winners included: John Neupauer (Bethlehem Catholic, baseball); Aaron Keglovits (Whitehall, boys' basketball); Chelsea Gary (Nazareth, girls' basketball); Lauren Posch (Bethlehem Catholic, cheerleading); Jordan Frank (Emmaus, boys' cross country); Kaitlyn Rodriguez (Easton, field hockey); Kevin Kunkle (Northampton, golf); Connor Mellett (Easton, boys' lacrosse); Molly Diamondstein (Parkland, girls' lacrosse); Chris Tacca (Parkland, boys' soccer); Caitlin Lucas (Easton, girls' soccer); Connor Harrigan (Freedom, boys' swimming); Nishad Gothoskar (Parkland, boys' tennis); Jenna Peng (Parkland, girls' tennis); Nick Nejad (Whitehall, boys' track and field); Patrick Nelson (Easton, boys' volleyball), Katie Yannarell (Central Catholic, girls' volleyball) and Tyler Tarsi (Nazareth, wrestling).
