John A. Surdoval
John A. Surdoval, 91, from Macungie, died Aug. 19, 2014, following a long battle with Alzheimer's.
He and his wife Mary Kathryn "Catherine" (Doyle) Surdoval were married 58 years June 30.
They were married at St. Rose Roman Catholic Church, Carbondale.
Born April 10, 1923, in Carbondale, he was the son of the late Joseph and Elizabeth (Jones) Surdoval.
A graduate of Benjamin Franklin High School, Carbondale, he attended Penn State University and Williamsport Technical Institute.
He faithfully and honorably served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II.
A senior manufacturing analyst at Mack Trucks International for 24 years, he traveled to 42 countries planning new plants.
Prior to that, he was employed at the former Daystrom Instruments, Archbald, and the former Murray Company, Scranton.
A charter member of St. Thomas More Roman Catholic Church, Allentown, he did volunteer work at St. Thomas More School.
He was a former member of the Knights of Columbus.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by sons Joseph J. and wife, Debra, and John F., all of Allentown, and Scott M. and wife Colleen of Stewartsville, N.J.; daughters Patricia A. Riola of Schnecksville and Carol C. Surdoval of Macungie; grandchildren James, Kelly, Sabrina and Austin Surdoval, and Nicholas and Alexander Riola; and other family and friends.
He was predeceased by siblings Joseph, James and William Surdoval, Elizabeth McCreery and Ellen Kase.
