Jessica Lightner Booz

Jessica Lightner Booz, 85, of Allentown, died Aug. 23, 2014.

She and her husband Herbert L. Booz were married 61 years.

Born in Marysville, Md., she was a daughter of the late Linn C. Lightner and Mary (Deckard) Lightner.

A 1951 graduate of Penn State University, she taught first grade in Harrisburg for three years, then taught kindergarten at Kratzer Elementary School, Parkland School District, for 27 years before retiring in 1991.

She loved teaching and truly believed, as the book is titled, "All I Really Need to Know, I Learned in Kindergarten."

A member of Asbury United Methodist Church, South Whitehall, for 54 years, she was a Sunday School superintendent and held many other positions there over the years.

She was a volunteer for an Allentown after-school program for Center City Ministries.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by a daughter, Kathy Lynn and her husband, Wayne Dries of Emmaus; son, Mark L. and his wife, Deborah, of Winston-Salem, N.C.; brother, Linn S. Lightener of Camp Hill; granddaughters Becky and Kate Dries and Maggie and Annie Booz; nieces; and nephews.

She was predeceased by a sister, Mary Lou.

There will be a calling hour 10 -11 a.m., followed by a funeral service at 11 a.m., both on Aug. 30 at Asbury United Methodist Church, 1533 Springhouse Road, South Whitehall.

Contributions may be made to the Lehigh County Conference of Churches, 534 Chew St., Allentown, PA 18102, for the conference's children's programs.
