John A. Surdoval, 91, of Linden Road, Mac-ungie, died Aug. 19, 2014, following a long battle with Alzheimer's. He was the husband of Mary Kathryn "Catherine" (Doyle) Surdoval to whom he was married 58 years last June 30. Born in Carbondale, he was the son of the late Joseph and Elizabeth (Jones) Surdoval.
He graduated from Benjamin Franklin High School, Carbondale. He attended Penn State University and Williamsport Technical Institute.
He faithfully and honorably served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II.
He worked at Mack Trucks International for 24 years as a senior manufacturing analyst and traveled to 42 countries planning new plants. Prior to that, he was employed at the former Daystrom Instruments in Archbald, and the former Murray Company in Scranton.
He was a charter member of St. Thomas More Roman Catholic Church, Allentown and did volunteer work at St. Thomas More School. He was a former member of the Knights of Columbus.
He is survived by his wife; children, Joseph J. and his wife Debra and John F., both of Allentown, Patricia A. Riola, of Schnecksville, Carl C., of Macungie, Scott M. and his wife Colleen, of Stewartsville, N.J.; grandchildren James, Kelly, Sabrina, and Austin Surdoval and Nicholas and Alexander Riola; other family and friends. He was predeceased by siblings, Joseph, James and William, Elizabeth McCreery and Ellen Kase.
