Roy Oehler, the eldest member of the Knauss family attending the 300th birthday celebration for Sebastian Knauss Aug. 22, taps a brick in place in a walkway leading to The Knauss Homestead just off East Main Street in Emmaus. Sebastian Knauss is celebrated as one of the founders of the original village of Emmaus. According to a press release from the Emmaus Heritage Alliance, Sebastian Knauss came from Europe at age 19. In 1759 the Moravian Community, later to become Emmaus, was formed on land donated by the Sebastian Knauss and Jacob Ehrenhardt families.
