Robert P. Hess
Robert P. "Bob" Hess 80, of Fellowship Community, Whitehall, died Aug. 15, 2014, at home.
Born Aug. 24, 1933, and reared in Fullerton, Whitehall Township, he was the only child of Ray P. and Hazel E. (Gray) Hess. He was an Eagle Scout.
After graduating from Whitehall High School in 1951 and Lafayette College in 1955, he served as civil affairs officer with the Army in Korea.
He then received a Master's of Art degree from Clark University, Worcester, Mass.
Later during his career, he did extensive graduate studies at Temple and Rutgers universities.
While at Clark University, he began a teaching assistantship.
He continued his education career teaching secondary English and social studies in the Bensalem and Neshaminy school districts in Lower Bucks County.
He worked in a private special education school, was the education director of a tutoring center and later became an administrator in adult trade schools before retiring from education to fulfill a lifetime whim to work in a hardware store.
After nine years as an associate and sales coordinator at the Fairless Hills Sears Hardware store, he left to care for his parents, and then to become a testing specialist at Montgomery County Community College until 2012.
He was a member of St. John's United Church of Christ, Fullerton, as a young man, and again during in his retirement to Whitehall.
His survivors include a daughter; Libby Hess of Upland; and a son; Preston, of Lansdale.
Arrangements were made by Harding Funeral Home, Slatington.
