Colgate research includes locals
Two Bethlehem residents, Jennifer Godbout, who is conducting research in Geology, and Grant Haines, researching in Biology, are among 200 Colgate students participating in the summer research projects.
CRN World Championship
Hannah Dunn, 18, of the Irish Stars Parker School of Irish Dance, Hellertown, won a second World Medal and World Crystal at the 2014 Cumann Rince Náisiúnta World Open Irish Dance Championships. She took home fourth place at this year's Rince Ceol June 27 through 29. at the Castelbar's Royal Theatre, County Mayo, Ireland.
Student gets leadership award
Alexandria Kennedy of Bethlehem was awarded the Lehigh University Student Senate Leadership Award in the 2014 spring semester. The award is given solely on merits of leadership in all aspects of student life, whether it is student government, student organizations or athletics.
Local woman Miss US contestant
Miss Pennsylvania, Khari Siegfried of Bethlehem, competed for the Miss United States title July 1 through 6 in Washington, D.C. Her service platform is adoption.
Bethlehem man elected secretary
Ali Capozzi of Bethlehem, a sports medicine student, was named secretary of the Pitt-Bradford Greek Council, University of Pittsburgh-Bradford.
Resident to attend U of Vermont
Marissa Carranza of Bethlehem, an incoming first-year engineering student, has been admitted to the University of Vermont's Honors College.
Residents will attend Wilkes
Bethlehem residents Lanai Galarza, who will study psychology, Dwight Schantz, pre-pharmacy, Rebecca Coriell, pre-dentistry, and Nshimirimana Zawadi, biology, have been welcomed into Wilkes University's class of 2018.
Three named to YWCA board
Three local women have been named recently to the Honorary Board of Directors for the YWCA of Bethlehem. Frances Hesselbein, who was a Girl Scouts USA leader and was with the Peter E. Drucker Foundation for Non-Profit Management, was the first woman to serve on the PPL board of Directors. Laura Haffner, area president, Wells Fargo- Lehigh Valley Division, was a board member of Big Brothers/Big Sisters of Lehigh County and a chair of both the Bethlehem Chamber Marketing Council and of Moravian College. Susan Yee, chief executive officer and founder of Active Data Inc., is a former chief operating officer of Twin County Cable Television and is currently on the Lehigh Valley Hospital and Health Network Board of Trustees, the Lehigh Valley Muhlenberg Hospital Board and the Lehigh University College of Education Board of Advisors.
