LEHIGH VALLEY WEATHER

Camp Jefferson column

The final week of camp for the summer kicked off last week. Kids and counselors alike had a great week playing games and staying cool at the Jefferson Pool.

Dodge ball was the most popular game of the week, but the campers also enjoyed games such as four square, basketball and pillow polo. The kids enjoyed a week full of friendly competitions and fun.

In the beginning of the week, the weather wasn't great but we didn't let that stop us. Campers and counselors stayed inside and had a pillow polo, hand ball and dodge ball tournament throughout the day, and everyone had a blast.

The campers also enjoyed crafting key chain animals out of gimp and beads. The animals represented ranged from snakes to crocodiles to giraffes and they were very colorful and impressive.

Tuesday was the camp field trip this week. We headed to The Roxy Theatre for the movie "How to Train Your Dragon 2." The children loved the movie.

The sequel is a DreamWorks film about a young man named Hiccup who trained dragons. Hiccup and his dragon, Toothless, battle against a villain named Drago to prove that dragons could be trained and are friendly. The movie was very cute and the kids were fully engaged from start to finish.

The kids at Camp Jefferson enjoyed their final day in the Jefferson Pool on Thursday even though it was a little chilly. When the pool water got a little too cold, the kids took a break and played some four square to warm back up.

On Friday, both camps joined together for the second time of the week for a blowout barbecue. The whole camp, kids and staff, enjoyed a feast of chicken and beef barbecue complete with macaroni and cheese, fruit salad and chips. Icee push pops were a favorite as the kids played games with the counselors and other campers all day before we headed over to Cementon for one last swim of the summer.

The campers had a wonderful summer filled with fun and awesome memories. Before the week was done the counselors named the campers of the week as well as the campers of the summer. All the kids had such a wonderful summer and it was truly a blast all seven weeks of camp.

The kids who took the crown for camper of the week were Kevin and Kristine L The big prize of camper of the summer went to Connor P. and Kaleigh H. A great job from all the kids all summer long!

At the end of the day, the counselors and campers said tearful and heartfelt goodbyes as we will all miss camp as we get ready to start another school year.

And with that, another fantastic summer at Camp Whitehall is in the books!
