Coplay police

Residents urged

to be vigilant

Coplay police are asking residents to lock their parked vehicles following a rash of incidents involving stolen electronic and other items from a number of vehicles in the borough.

Items stolen from vehicles

Police reported on Monday a rash of thefts and criminal mischief incidents.

A GPS was stolen from a vehicle on Magna Drive.

A pocket knife was taken from a vehicle in the 100 block of South Eighth Street.

Someone rummaged through two vehicles in the 300 block of Margaret Drive.

A GPS was stolen from a vehicle in the unit block of North Eighth Street and GPS units were stolen from vehicles in the 900 block of Barbara Drive and the 100 block of North Seventh Street.

Possible scam reported

Borough police said a possible scam was reported by a resident Aug. 6.

The resident reported several calls were made to the residence from someone listed on the caller ID as "Dr. Kirk and Vale" with a listed phone number. The resident did not answer the telephone and no message was left.

The area code was from South Florida, police said.

A call back by police showed the phone line busy.

Police are continuing their investigation into the matter and remind residents unless they know the party and number not to respond to the call.

Fire alarm set off

Police responded to a fire alarm Aug. 4 at 10 N. Front St.

On arrival, police found smoke in the apartment unit and the tenant sleeping.

The smoke was caused by unattended cooking on the stove, police said.
