Anita D. Bowie

Anita D. Bowie, 93, of Emmaus, died Aug. 7, 2014, in her home. She was the wife of Donald S. Bowie Jr., with whom she shared 65 years of marriage. The two met while he was a student at the Harvard School of Law. Born in Winchendon, Mass., she was the daughter of the late Joseph A. and Ida (Dufault) Deschenes.

She received her nursing degree from Massachusetts Memorial Hospital School of Nursing, Boston. She was a registered nurse in the United States Navy during World War II specializing in pediatric care and polio research. While with the Navy she attained the rank of Lt. (jg).

She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, Allentown and served on several committees. She also volunteered at the Blind Association and Lehigh Valley Hospital.

She enjoyed gardening, cooking, sewing, reading and spending time at their home in Long Beach Island, N.J. They also enjoyed extensive traveling during their retirement.

She is survived by her husband; daughters, Barbara and her husband Barry Kulakowsky, of Douglassville, and Ann and her husband Richard Fox, of Emmaus; grandchildren, Lisa, Peter, Natalie, Bruce, Timothy and Maria; great-grandchildren, Penelope, Grace, Chloe and Brodie. She was predeceased by a son D. Bruce Bowie.
