William F. Boucher, M.D.,
William F. Boucher, M.D., 97, of Allentown, died July 18, 2014, in Allentown after a brief illness. He was the husband of Agnes (Blamer) Boucher.
Born in Hannibal, Mo., he was a son of the late L. James and Ruth (Butts) Boucher.
He was a 1934 graduate of Catasauqua High School. He graduated from Lehigh University with honors and special honors in bacteriology. He earned his medical degree from the University of Rochester, where he interned in pathology and helped with research in blood substitutes.
He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and served stateside as a lieutenant with Medical Administrative Corps, Philadelphia.
Following a general internship at St. Mark's Hospital, Salt Lake City, Utah, he joined the staff of the former Haff Hospital, Northampton, for 14 years. He then had a private office in Northampton.
He was a member of St. Stephen's Episcopal Church, Catasauqua, and was a senior warden on the vestry and was chairman of the building fund of the Whitehall parish. He then joined St. Paul's Anglican Church, Allentown.
He was a founder and president of the Anglican Foundation of the Lehigh Valley. He was a member, trustee and president of the Lehigh County Medical Society. He was a member of the Pennsylvania Medical Society, American Medical Association and the Fellow of the American Academy of Family Physicians. He was on the board of trustees of Northampton Community College for 23 years. He was a member of and was on the board of directors and was a president of the former Northampton Rotary Club for 55 years. He was a president and board member of the Northampton Area Chamber of Commerce. He was Northampton Area School and team physician for 40 years and a member and a health officer of the borough health board.
He was on the executive board of the former Lehigh Council, Boy Scouts of America, was a chairman of its advancement committee, and was a recipient of the Silver Beaver Award.
He is survived by a daughter, Nancy L. and her husband Charles W. Terry of Poolesville, Md.; two sons, William F. Jr., M.D., and his wife Suzanne T. of Biddeford, Maine; and Richard D. of Egypt; six grandchildren, Jendy, Elizabeth, Richard, Sara, Emily and Nicholas; and four great-grandchildren.
He was predeceased by two brothers, James H., and Roy D.
