Whitehall Police
Lock vehicles, beware of scams
The Lehigh County Auto Theft Task Force's Detective Jeffrey Bruchak reminds residents to lock their vehicles.
In the past one to two months, almost all the vehicles stolen in Whitehall Township were unlocked and had keys left in them.
Residents also are reminded not to leave the valet or spare key in the vehicle. Most modern cars have them in the owner's manual. Take them out and store them in a secure location, Bruchak advises.
Everyone also is advised to beware of phone computer hackers including those conducting scams by phone. Hackers represent themselves to be from Microsoft and say your computer security has been compromised by viruses or malware. They will ask you to go to your computer and walk through the process to take control of your computer. They will then lock you out of your competer unless you subscribe to their service.
