Jayant Shantilal Shah, 70, of Macungie, died suddenly July 22, 2014. He was the husband of Usha Shah.

He was highly educated, earning a Bachelor of Science in geology from India and a Ph.D. in metallurgy from the University of Missouri-Rolla. He retired in 2003, after having worked as a research scientist and senior manager at AT&T Bell Labs/ Lucent Technologies/ Agere Systems, for over 30 years. He was considered an expert in the field of fiber optics technology.

He was a voracious reader and had a keen interest in classical music. He loved playing bridge. He was the patriarch of a wonderful, close knit family.

He is survived by his wife; son, Samir.

A private family cremation service will be held at the Lehigh Valley Crematory, Hellertown. Arrangements were made by the J.S. Burkholder Funeral Home, Allentown.
