William L. Vitez, 94, of Bethlehem, died July 13, 2014, at St. Luke's Hospital. Born in Bethlehem, he was a son of the late Joseph and Mary (Koczen) Vitez. He was the husband of the late Mary G. (Gorcsan) Vitez.
He was a 1937 graduate of Liberty High School where he was a member of the wrestling team.
He was in the U.S. Navy in the Pacific Theatre during World War II.
Hel was a motor and furnace inspector for Bethlehem Steel for 43 years until retiring in 1983.
He was a lifelong member of St. John's Windish Lutheran Church, Bethlehem.
He was a manager for North Central Little League for four years. He coached wrestling at West Bethlehem Youth Association. He was named the 1939 Lehigh Valley Amateur Wrestling Champion. He was a charter member of the Bethlehem - Murska Sobota Sister Cities Association and a member of the Steelworkers' Archives.
He is survived by a daughter, Susan L. of Bethlehem; a son, William D. and his wife Maria and their daughter Lauren of Gwynedd Valley.; a brother-in-law, John Jr. and his wife Lucy Gorcsan; nieces; nephews; and relatives in Slovenia.
He was predeceased by a brother, Stephen and his wife Mary.
