Laurys Station Volunteer Fire Company No. 1 recently held its 2014 Fire Company elections, with Charles Eckhart named president and Matt Desch chosen as vice president.
Robin Hood was elected recording secretary and Marie Hood was named financial secretary.
Eric Minford was chosen treasurer, Roderick Lowe was named chaplain, and Dale French, Dale Remaley, Charles Wechsler were name trustees.
Fire line officers include Chief Robin Hood, First Assistant Chief Kevin Remaley, Second Assistant Chief Chris Greb, Fire Police Capt. John Bull, Safety Coordinator and Quartermaster Paul Schuler, Training Officer Matt Desch, Truck Engineer Dale French.
Matt Desch was named 2013 Firefighter of the Year, along with Douglas Lloyd chosen as the 2013 Junior Firefighter of the Year.
The fire company also accepted delivery of its new 2013 attack/brush unit manufactured by KME, Nesquehoning.
The truck has an International chassis, five-man cab, 4x4, 1,500 gallon per minute pump and an auxiliary pump featuring "pump-and-roll" operation at brush fires.
In addition, the truck has a 500-gallon water tank, 30-gallon foam tank, front bumper turret nozzle, operated electronically from the cab, brush gear and tools, water rescue gear, light vehicle rescue equipment including a battery powered Combi tool (Jaws of Life), portable winch and light tower.
This new unit replaces the older 1981 GMC 4x4 attack/brush unit, now for sale.
Fire company business meetings are 8 p.m. the second Wednesday of every month.
Fire team training is 6:30 p.m. every Monday. Volunteers are always needed.
