John R. Kimock
John "Johnny" R. Kimock, 87, of Whitehall, died July 13, 2014, at Fellowship Manor, Whitehall.
Born in Stiles, he was a son of the late John J. and Mary (Malast) Kimock.
He was a 1944 graduate of Whitehall High School and attended Heidelberg University, Germany.
He was a U.S. Army staff sergeant in occupied Germany during World War II.
He was a buyer / planner for Mack Trucks Inc., Allentown, until retiring in 1987. He was a property accountant and manager of office services at Air Products and Chemicals, Trexlertown, and an administrator of student affairs at Kutztown University.
He was a part-owner, secretary and director of publicity and a public address announcer for the former Allentown Jets. He was Service Electric's first play-by-play basketball announcer.
He played for various pro, semi-pro and farm baseball teams. He was a special training assistant for both the Milwaukee Brewers and the San Diego Padres.
He was a member of St. Peter's Catholic Church, Coplay.
He was a referee at high school, college and professional levels for 35 years. He managed an army baseball team and umpired post-level baseball. He was a lifetime member of the PIAA and was a member of the College Board of Officials. He was a past president of the Lehigh Valley Basketball Officials Association and the West Coplay Maennerchor.
He was inducted into the Pennsylvania American Legion Sports Hall of Fame and the Whitehall-Coplay School District Athletic Hall of Fame. He was a recipient of the MVP award while playing for Coplay's first American Legion state baseball championship.
He was a life member of VFW Post 426, Coplay, and the V.G. Kern Veterans Association, Schnecksville.
He is survived by a former wife, Theresa M. (Schwartz) Kimock; a son, John T. and his wife, Mary; a daughter, Veronica M. Schreiter; two granddaughters, Haley and Staci Kimock; and a grandson, Nicholas Schreiter.
He was predeceased by a daughter, Theresa Maria.
